Horikawa Walkway Watch Fires

Where Along the Horikawa Walkway (east side of Horikawa Street)
From Shimodachiuri Street to Ichijo Modori-bashi Bridge

Enjoy the ethereal scenery of the Horikawa Pathway bathed in firelight. Various events are planned, including dance by Maiko, live performances, festival stalls, and more.

Kamo River Zone

Kamo Riverbank (west side)

Where Kamo Riverbank (From Bukkoji Street to Oike Street)

“Wind Chime Lights” ― bamboo baskets holding wind chimes made using traditional techniques, and lit up with LEDs ― present a refreshing performance of color and sound. Combined with illuminated bamboo grass decorations and other features, set off by the murmuring of the Kamo River, and the outcome is an almost otherworldly atmosphere.

Umekoji Zone

Where Umekoji Park

Beautifully illuminated with lights and lanterns, Umekoji Park presents an entirely different world in the evening. On Saturdays, Sundays and August 12 (Monday/Public Holiday), visitors are invited to a gourmet area and mini-fair, and to write wishes on strips of paper. These are added to Tanabata (Star Festival) decorations.

Kitano Kamiya River Zone

Illumination Sunset ― 8:30 PM
Where Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Kamishichiken, the area in front of Kitano-mon Gate on Imadegawa Street, the Kitano shopping district, and the Taishogun shopping district.

    August 11 (Sun/Holiday) from 4:00 PM (on Kamishichiken Street)
  • ・Kitano Tenmangu Shrine precincts are open to visitors in the evening / illumination of the Odoi (a Historic Site, part of a protective embankment built around Kyoto about 400 years ago)
    August 10 (Sat) ― 12 (Mon/Public Holiday) and
    August 16 (Fri) ― 18 (Sun)
    Enjoy the delightful atmosphere of the shrine precincts illuminated, and adorned with traditional decorations of Tanabata (Star Festival).

Miyazu City Zone

Where Amanohashidate and nearby areas
  • ・Amanohashidate Lamp Lights
    An illumination event held in the Monju area, at the southern end of Amanohashidate. Beaches along Amanohashidate are also lit up, presenting scenery far removed from that of a bright sunny day.
